Principal’s Update

Dear Parents,
As we head into the final fortnight of the term students and teachers are busy finalising their unit work within preparation for the distribution of Semester 1 report cards. Parents can expect to receive report cards via email on the afternoon of Wednesday 25 June. At the beginning of this year, the Department of Education released a new version (V9) of the Australian Curriculum for Qld state schools. As a result, parents can expect to see some changes in the report card format and potentially some changes in your child’s results this semester. Information regarding this and what parents can expect was emailed out to families last week. Please check your inbox or junk mail for this messaging about report cards. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher.
Junior Playscape
This project is almost complete and we are counting down the days until the construction fencing is removed and our students can test out their new outdoor play environment. We are very grateful to our parent community lead by the P&C Assoc who raised the funds necessary to realise this vision. Thank you!!
Holloway Street Traffic: Thank you to the parents who have provided comment and communication regarding the traffic concerns in Holloway St. Local traffic officers from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council have spent time over the past weeks collecting data and observing the behaviour of children amongst the traffic. They have provided the school with a report and recommendations regarding how the school should remedy this situation.
This week I am meeting with the representatives from Camp Australia to discuss potential strategies and agreed next steps.
Parents / carers can expect that any changes regarding Holloway St parking and/or entry points to the school will be communicated in writing prior to the upcoming holidays with a view to implement at the beginning of next term.
Prep 2026
It is that time of year when we call for our next year’s Prep enrolments to come in. The transition into prep takes time and in order for each child successfully transition into BIG school we begin the process now.
If your child is turning the 5 years of age between July 1 2025 and June 30 2026 then they are eligible to begin Prep next year. Please make contact with our wonderful office team who will assist you with the enrolment process.
Our first parent information session for Prep is fast approaching and scheduled for early next term. Details on how to register for this session will be sent out soon.
QParents
Don’t forget that we now have QParents in place. Next term we will begin to explore more components of QParents. We would like to introduce online permissions. To do this we need a majority of our families with active QParents accounts.
If you have not yet registered for QParents, please make sure you do this before the holidays. And, if you have lost your registration link, contact the front office staff who will help with providing you a new one.
Regards,
Robyn Taplin, Principal

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year in August. This process collects data about school students with disability who are receiving adjustments across Australia in a consistent, reliable and systematic way. It enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
The NCCD is a collection that counts:
- the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
- the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.
Schools identify which students will be counted in the NCCD. They base their decisions on the following:
- adjustments or ‘help’ provided for the student (after consultation with the student and/or their parents, guardians and carers)
- the school team’s observations and professional judgements
- any medical or other professional diagnoses
- other relevant information.
The following information about the student is collected, including:
• their year of schooling
• the level of adjustment received
• the broad type of disability.
The NCCD encourages schools to review their learning and support systems and processes. This helps schools to continually improve education outcomes for all students.
Further information can be accessed with the NCCD Fact Sheet for Parents, Guardians and Carers. Please do not hesitate to contact your Sector DP or HOSES if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
Pauline Mead

Lightning Cup Preparation
The Lightning Cup Netball competition will take place in August 2024. All interested students in Year 5 and 6 will begin training on Tuesday mornings before school with Mrs Trapnell and team. We will hopefully be taking 3 teams to attend the competition. Selection for these teams will be finalised by the end of Term 2. Preference will be given to those that show dedication to training, skills and teamwork.
Soccer Morning Fitness Program Term 2
Students have enjoyed getting out on the oval before school on a Monday morning. It has been great to see so many students showing an interest in Soccer and having a go when they haven’t played before.
Please arrive promptly at 07:40am in the Central Covered Area (C.C.A) next to the café. Students need to leave their bag on the stage, mark their name off with Miss Pettifer and head out to the oval to meet coaches with their hat and water bottle.
Don’t forget your child must come dressed in their sports uniform with their runners (soccer boots will not be permitted), shin pads (must be worn) and socks on ready to start the session. Students will need to bring their school uniform and school shoes to change back into after each session. They are to bring their bag to the session and will need to bring along the following items:
- A towel
- A water bottle
- School uniform, a change of socks and school shoes
- Shin pads and socks that cover the shin pads (for safety)
If a session is going to be cancelled, you will be notified via email from Miss Pettifer. Don’t forget to check your junk mail!
Remaining Session Dates
Week 9 Monday 16 June
Week 10 Monday 23 June
